I hope everyone is doing well. We appreciate your patience and flexibility in this unique situation. As things have changed rapidly, we need to maintain this mindset. As the district provides further updates in the coming week(s), we will share with you those updates or updates to our plans.
I wanted to take a moment to thank our teachers. This is an unprecedented situation and they have shown such flexibility and responsiveness. Their training and experience is in directly instructing students at school. This new situation pushes us into new territories. They have been challenging themselves with this new opportunity to try out new things and find new ways to support our kids. They are definitely showing our kids and community what having a growth mindset looks like.
In meeting with teachers (virtually), we created the following shared general expectations:
- Share suggested daily week-long schedule with daily out line of learning topic/goal and aligned activities for parents/students. (To be posted on the school website - http://www.skinnernorth.org/remote-learning.html.)
- At least 1 interactive meeting or mini-lesson per week (Zoom or Seesaw)
- A daily video with mini-lesson with direct instruction that is either recorded by teacher or shared from an alternative source.
- Plan to incorporate feedback to students (This could be direct feedback from teacher, Freckle, Quizlet, etc.)
- Google Drive or Google Classroom with resources available for kids/families.
- Keep it as fun and interactive as possible.
Please use the website as a centralized resource for information. It includes links to Zoom and Seesaw consent, communication plans for teachers, learning plans, resources and a file of administration's communications.
As a reminder, if you have questions for administration, I also wanted to encourage you to go to the Skinner North Question Corner. We will try to answer to the best of our ability. This is a fluid situation, so we are getting news at different points.
Note: When you submit a question, you agree to have your question published and sent to the newsletter listserv (names will not be included). We will try to respond to all questions submitted, but some may not be answered/published. If you have an immediate concern or question, please always feel free to email.

Starry Night’s Virtual Silent Auction - Ready to View!
Our Starry Night basket donation will be called: "Vino Lover... aka Parent Survival Basket". Keep an eye out for this :)
COVID-19 may create obstacles for community-building in person; however, it cannot dismantle our amazing school family. In the midst of uncertainty due to a pandemic, our talented administrators and teachers swiftly and skillfully adapted. Skinner North teachers crafted e-learning solutions for over 500 students, keeping our children connected and engaged while at home. This display of professionalism and dedication to our school community speaks volumes. Let us, Skinner North families, reciprocate this show of strength in the face of adversity, as we all are #SNStrong.
Because of the generous previous donations made by our community (YOU!), FoSN stands ready to help with e-learning or technology needs that will help our community over the following weeks. These are the situations when your donations matter most - when the unforeseen arises and FoSN has the ability to step up and support. Let’s work together to build up funds that allow our school and our children to thrive now and in the future.
We hope you’ll take time not only to bid on items this week and have some fun but also share your experiences with our Skinner North family. As you enjoy our online fundraiser for our virtual community-building event, we’d love to see you post pictures with the #SNStrong hashtag. Despite social isolation, our community can and will unite to emerge even stronger than before, thanks to the determination and compassion of its members - all of you!
