Today, students in grades K-2 showed off their musical skills today. They had been working hard to prepare and entertained us all with their songs from around the world including: Universal Language, Sarasponda, Si Me Dan Pasteles, Sounds All Around Us, Funga Alafia, Marko Skace, Chinese New Year, Aiken Drum, Wikki to the Luau, Three Little Birds and A Million Little Snowflakes. Our 6th grade ukelele class and Mr. Shroeder (on guitar) made appearances as well. Thank you to Ms. Poznicek and Ms. Fahey for all their planning and work on today's assembly. Special thank you to the arts committee for creating the decoration.

Students in 5th grade helped to create this month's diversity committee bulletin board. Students learned about Standing Rock and the Dakota Access Pipeline. They formulated and shared their opinions. Come check out their thinking just outside the parent room. Thank you to Ms. Lee and Ms. Jones for helping students create.
Our Spirit Week is Dec. 19-23 and student council came up with ideas for each day.
Monday (12/19) - Pajama Day! Tuesday (12/20) - Crazy Hair Day! (for 3-8) and class color day for (K-2) KDG - Green 1st - Blue 2nd- Red Wednesday (12/21) - Career Day! -Come to school dressed as what you want to be when you grow up. Thursday (12/22) - Sports Attire Day! -Come to school with your favorite sport shirt or jersey. Friday (12/23) - Skinner Spirit Day! This Saturday the Purple Lego Robotics team is competing at a tournament. The Saturday after that, the Gold team is competing. Students are learning many skills preparing for competition. They have challenges and must problem solve and using coding to attain their goal. Good luck teams! We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works.
But only a tiny fraction of us are learning how technology works. Fewer than half of all schools teach computer science. That’s why our entire school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (December 5-11). More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code. Every student KDG-8th grade is participating in an hour of coding practice today and tomorrow. They get to self select their coding module at https://hourofcode.com/us/learn. Our 1st and 4-8 grade students participated today and had a great time. Computer science students from UIC came as well to share their knowledge as well. Thank you UIC! Students received certificates and stickers commemorating their participation in Hour of Code. See http://hourofcode.com/us for details, and help spread the word. This evening, we had out art show and specials showcase. It was a fun time. Student work was displayed in matted frames and could be purchased. In addition to the art viewing, students were able to participate in drum circles, play Dance Dance Revolution, and have some fun with Spanish. A special ;) thank you to our specials team including: Ms. Glynn, Ms. Poznicek, Ms. Fahey (our music student teacher), Mr. Schroeder, Ms. Gleason and Mr. Popowich, and to our parent volunteers!
