Good afternoon,
We hope everyone had a nice Friday. Please see below for a few updates. Have a wonderful weekend, Katie and Mattae ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fall Fest (Needs Volunteers) - Looking to get Involved! Fall Fest is a great way to do this. The FoSN planning team is in need of additional volunteer support (1-hour time slots) in order to offer a variety of activities at Fall Fest. Click here to pick up a task for yourself or to sign up your upper grade SN student. Thank you! Tickets for the Fall Fest Mystery Box Raffle, Pumpkin-Decorating Experience, and Activity Stations will be available for purchase soon. Get ready for a family-friendly, community-building FUNdraiser! Diverse Needs Committee Coffee - Please join us for our first caregiver coffee of the school year! Friday September 30 at 8:30am (right after drop off) outside the school at the front. In case of inclement weather we will move to the parent room (Room 105). Diverse Needs Committee Meeting Notes - Catch up on the discussion from our September 9 meeting with notes posted at the Diverse Needs Website. Our next planning meeting will be on Friday, October 14 at 8:30am in the parent room (Room 105) and via Google Meet. For more information about the committee, to express interest, or to say hello, contact us via the website here. Self Dismissal Reminder - If you plan to have your student self dismiss at 3:30, be sure to submit a parent/guardian signed note to the main office stating this. Please note, there is no supervision for students after 3:30 if they self dismiss. They would need to be enrolled in after school programming to remain. It would be expected that they leave the school premises if self-dismissing. Thanks for your cooperation in supporting student safety and end of day plans. Principal Report to the LSC - Please see this link for the Principal’s Report to the LSC from our September 15th meeting. Please note you can find past approved LSC minutes and principal reports at http://www.skinnernorth.org/2022_2023lsc.html. Good evening! Please see this link for our Community Newsletter.
Have a wonderful night, Katie and Mattea Hi Everyone,
We hope each of you had a great second week of school! Please see below for some important updates as we move into week three. Remember Monday there is no school due to Labor Day. Have a great long weekend, Katie and Mattea ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Day Plan Week Three If your student is in Kindergarten-4rd grade please complete this form so we can help make sure your child gets to the correct place after school. (It asks you what’s your plan is for your student at the end of day, i.e. Pick Up, Stanton Park, Right At School, Bus). This form will stop accepting responses at 10am on Tuesday morning. This will be the last week we request this as we hope schedules have normalized. If you have changes to bus after this, please call the main office by noon on the day of the change to ensure proper dismissal of your student. Skinner North Fall Fest Friday, September 30th 4:00-6:00pm Front side of the school grounds Pumpkin-decorating, ring toss, football, pixel art, freeze dance, races, and more! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We were lucky to have a fantastic group of parent volunteers (some pictured here) run Fall Fest last school year. Join the fun this year! The more volunteers we have, the more activities we can offer our kiddos. Click here to choose a specific volunteer task. There are options to contribute in varied ways- donating items, planning from home, hosting a specific activity at the event, and more. Thank you for your support! Student Programs The Department of Arts Education has spent the summer planning their student programs for this school year. Please read on for details of opportunities for your students in this new school year, and please share these opportunities with your school community through fliers and other shared media their department has linked below on the name of each program. The All-City Performing Arts Program offers music and performance ensembles for CPS students every Saturday at Jones College Prep. Students can choose from 13 different ensembles, and have the chance to perform throughout the school year! Any student in grades 3–12 at any CPS school—neighborhood, Charter, Contract, or Options - are eligible to apply. Parents and school teachers can apply on a student's behalf as well! Auditions will be held on September 17. Here is the flyer! Diversity Committee The Diversity Committee contributes to a vibrant school community that centers the growth, success, and well-being of our students. We support programming that creates a more inclusive environment for our students, families, and staff. We model curiosity and dialogue about our intersectional identities and the diverse communities in which we live. We are committed to anti-racist learning and action to address the long-standing racial inequities in our education system. Last year, the Diversity Committee's parents and school staff supported many opportunities for learning and connection. Below are just a few highlights: - regular Diversity Discussion prompts for reflection and exploration at-home - Recess Rangoli with donations to Cradles to Crayons and chalk rangoli in celebration of Diwali - West African drumming with SN parent Michael Hill - virtual author visit with acclaimed Chicago-based poet and author Zetta Elliott - lion dancing and tinikling during PE - planning for implementation of the Teaching Equitable Asian American Community History (TEAACH) Act.
