We had our Kindergarten Celebration today. It is such a special event and a wonderful way to commemorate all the learning and growth our students have achieved. This age is so special as they are so inquisitive about the world around them and full of possibility. They bring so much joy to the school and we were excited to celebrate them.
Students performed various songs celebrating their time in Kindergarten and getting ready for 1st grade. They then transitioned outside where they participated in carnival games and had picnic lunches with their families and friends. Thank you to all the families who help support and nurture the students and also to our fantastic teachers: Ms. Mulligan, Ms. Kearns, Ms. Kirschenbaum, Ms. McCarthy and all of their specials teachers Mr. Popowich, Ms. Poznicek, Ms. Glynn and Senor Schroeder for all their work supporting the students. Congratulations Kindergartners!! This quarter our 2nd graders researched a selected state and created parade floats representing that state. Yesterday, they shared their float by participating in a parade around the school. Thank you to the 2nd graders for sharing their research and to Ms. Shallenberg and Ms. Delanty for organizing!
Third grade has studied Chicago history throughout their school year. They have learned through inquiry about Native Americans who lived here, colonization and development of the city as we know it today. They researched neighborhoods and gained further understanding of the uniqueness and diversity of Chicago. In a culminating project, students chose an individual who has a connection to the city and researched them. At the Wax Museum, they represented their selected person and shared their learning while being in that role with museum visitors. Check out some of our wax figures in the photos below. It was such a great event! Thank you to the students for being such knowledgeable resources about their person and to Ms. Shakespeare and Ms. Noecker organizing! June Jamboree was on Friday, June 9. This year end celebration had a Brazilian Carnival theme. Students and families were able to create carnival masks, learn Brazilian Capoeira martial arts, dance to the beat of Caribbean drum rhythms (and DJ Niko), make kites and play soccer. It was a fun event and a great way to start the summer off on a fun note.
We are beginning the last full week of school, so if you have not already subscribed to GoCPS to receive notices and reminders about the high school application process, make sure to visit go.cps.edu and subscribe to the site today!
There are also two important activities to look out for this week. Activation Codes: Between June 8 and 14, your student should receive and bring home an Activation Code (previously called PIN) letter from school. These Activation Codes will be used to create your GoCPS high school application accounts and access your student’s high school program eligibility information in August 2017. If you do not receive Activation Code letters by June 14, please call the Office of Access and Enrollment at 773-553-2060. We will send an email to the GoCPS subscribe list to remind you to activate your account this summer, so please make sure you have subscribed to the site and save this Activation Code in an easy-to-find location until August. Subscribe Workshop: School counselors will be conducting brief workshops with all 7th grade students before the end of the school year to give them an introduction to the new high school application process. Please check with your student to make sure they attend this important workshop. If you have additional questions, please contact Chicago Public Schools at: CPS Office of Access & Enrollment 773-553-2060 | gocps@cps.edu 42 W. Madison St. | Chicago, IL 60602 We had approximately 38 students select to participate in the musical course as their special's elective. Students worked throughout the year on their musical performance skills with Ms. Poznicek. They demonstrated their hard work Tuesday and Wednesday with their performance of Princess Whatsername, a tale of a princess who had forgotten who she was. Their performance was funny, engaging and entertaining. We are so proud of their hard work and poise on stage. Thank you to Ms. Poznicek for all her organization around the musical class and the show and to Ms. Glynn for helping with set construction.
Beginning this week, 7th grade families will receive the first critical piece of high school application material when we deliver Activation Codes (previously called PINs) to schools. These Activation Codes will be used to create your GoCPS high school application accounts and access your student’s high school program eligibility information in August 2017. This will give you as much as a two month early start on the application process!
Activation Codes will be delivered to school counselors between June 8 and June 14, and they will be distributed to students to bring home. Delivery date ranges for Activation Code letters are estimated based on the schedule of the CPS Warehouse and actual delivery dates will vary by school. Please save this Activation Code in an easy-to-find location until August. In the meantime, make sure to visit go.cps.edu and subscribe to the site today! By subscribing, you will receive notices and reminders when key functions of the application process are opened to the public, including a notice in August 2017 to use your Activation Code to create your GoCPS account. If you have additional questions, please contact Chicago Public Schools at: CPS Office of Access & Enrollment 773-553-2060 | gocps@cps.edu 42 W. Madison St. | Chicago, IL 60602 ![]()
