Fighting for Equal Funding - Parent Advocacy

5/25/2016

As you may have seen in the news CPS is bracing for roughly a 20-30% cut to overall school funding.   We have been fortunate enough to be able to review our school specific funding and budget and it is about a 25% cut across the board.

We are currently doing a deeper budget analysis and we will prepare a scenario, plan, organizational chart and budget to present to the teachers/staff, school community and our Local School Council. As always, we will do our best with what we have and seek out creative ways to minimize cuts whenever possible.

Parents have also organized to help fight for equal funding.  Some have attended rallies and contacted their representatives.  The picture below shows some for our parents at the Raise Your Hand Billion Dollar Bake Sale. Please visit www.cps.edu/equality and find ways that you can get involved to help us fight for better funding. The site has many resources and tools to help parents get further involved. If we are successful in this more funds may be released to CPS and schools in the near future.

Thanks for your support and flexibility as we continue to work together for the benefit of our children.

We had a  fantastic turnout at STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Night!  At the event, students had the opportunity to explore virtual reality, coding, chemical reactions, engineering, architecture, math, careers in the STEM field and more.  Thank you to Ms. Kelly Kleinertz for spearheading the event and the Science PLC for their hard work in planning.  Another big thank you to all the parent volunteers and area businesses who shared their STEM knowledge and experience with our curious students.  It was such an enriching opportunity for our kids!
