​On Saturday, March 26th, Skinner North's Math Team competed in Contest 3 of the Chicago Junior Math League competition series.  

The 6th grade team (starters:  Roshni, Connor, Matthew, Ben, Anthony, and Adrianna) earned 2nd place in Division A


The 8th grade team (Anagha, Kody, Marvin, and Zoe) earned 5th place in Division A


Roshni earned 2nd place in the Sixth Grade Division A group!

Connor earneed 5th place in the Sixth Grade Division A group!

Big congrats to our other competitors:  Nora, Muhammad, Benedict, Gabe, Bernadette, and Lillian for representing Skinner North!

The team had a successful and fun first season and will participate again next year.  Watch out for updates early next year to hear how your 6th-8th grade student can get involved.

On Saturday March 19th, You Be The Chemist participated in the Challenge at North Park University. Anthony A.,, Bronagh, Sarai, and Iman competed in the judged chemistry demonstration.  Roshni and Adriana competed in the Quiz Bowl earning 4th and 6th place.  Roshni and Adriana have qualified for the You Be The Chemist State Challenge on Saturday April 30th and Lewis University!  Thank you to Ms. Rogers for coaching the team!  Congratulations to all the participants!!

As our school-wide spelling bee champion, Nina, a Skinner North 6th grader, qualified to participate in city-wide Spelling Bee on March 10.   She came in first at this grueling day long event and has qualified to compete in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.!  

Words she spelled included:  tithe, vivisection, palmetto, madeleine (this one made her smile, she had a madeleine for breakfast), raconteur, pacifism, contrapuntal, scherzo, furlough, ocelot, gnathonic, trepak, hermerocallis, quixote, asthmogenic, realschule, wedel,  mahout, gallows, amble, eclipse, ascertain, valet, 
The decider word in the 24th round  was ceremonious.  Nina correctly spelled her word and was offered the championship word:  bombardment.    

The last rounds were hotly contested between Keller, Lenart, Edison & Skinner North.  Edison took second place and Lenart third. 

Congratulations, Nina!  We are so proud  of your hard work, dedication and spelling prowess!!!
