March Community Newsletter- March

2/28/2023

Good morning and (almost) March!  Please use this link to see the newsletter for March.  It is really helpful for families to review the community newsletter as it does have a lot of information and details about some fun upcoming events.

In addition, we need families to abide by the traffic patterns in the morning.  Please enter via Halsted and exit via Larrabee while using the lot across the street to park (or park at Target and walk over).  No parents should be entering the staff lot or the circle drive during drop off and pick up.  These are safety issues that we need your support on.

Have a wonderful day,
Katie and Mattea

Good morning,

We hope everyone is having a wonderful Friday. Please read below for a few updates and reminders.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Mattea and Katie

—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Morning arrival and end of day pick up
Please remember to enter Scott via Halsted and pull into the south parking lot and exit onto Larabee. You can park in the lot across from the school or Target.  Ensuring that Scott street has a one way flow of traffic helps keep students safe, buses moving and drop off and pick up smooth. Lastly, please do not pull into or park in the staff parking lot or the lot that is connected to Stanton Park.

Principal’s Report to the LSC
Please see this link for the principal’s report given at this month’s LSC meeting.

Diversity Committee
谢谢, 감사합니다, Cảm ơn! These are just a few of the many ways we'd like to say thank you.
Thank you to our fantastic #TEAM of performers, student emcees, and event volunteers who worked hard to create a special Lunar New Year celebration last week! In addition to over $2000 of funds generously donated by SN families to host the event, over $1,000 was raised for our school from rattle drum, food, & drink sales!

To view or add to our community LNY videos, click here.

Congrats to Ms. Boraz's class for winning the Scavenger Hunt Raffle prizes, thanks to Aliana G's winning ticket! Room 207 will receive LNY-themed prizes as well as an $88 Scholastic gift card for classroom use.

Events like this year's Lunar New Year Celebration are part of what make Skinner North so unique. With your help, we hope to continue this annually. We invite all of you to continue to support school-wide programming through donations of your time, money, and talent. To join our Diversity Committee, please contact us at sndiversity@gmail.com.

Diversity Committee Update

Black History Month: Thanks to organization effort by the SN Student Voice Committee, students in buddy classrooms this week will create a giant timeline that recognizes Black historical contributions to the United States.

Monday Sunshine: Click here for details, and choose a specific week for your family (or a team of SN families!) to set up donated treats.

Lunar New Year Event: Pick up your child(ren) as usual THIS Friday at 3:30pm, then enter door 3 (pictured) together.  On your way to auditorium seating, record a video or purchase an $8 rattle drum to help cheer for our amazing cultural show performers! After the show, visit the gym for fun activities or the cafeteria for pizza slices & water bottles (for purchase).

Please reach out to sndiversity@gmail.com with planning questions or suggestions.

Exciting News at Skinner North!

2/3/2023

We're excited to announce that Skinner North has officially obtained Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation for our school counseling program from the American School Counselor Association.  What is RAMP?   RAMP recognizes schools  committed to delivering comprehensive, data-informed school counseling programs aligned with the ASCA National Model framework.   To date, approximately 1,200 schools have earned the RAMP designation.  Learn more at https://www.schoolcounselor.org/RAMP.

Thank you to our hardworking counselors, Ms. Jacobson and Ms. Renteria, and our teaching staff who have helped ensure students are supported and there is consistent implementation of the ASCA model.

Our counselors are able to do push-in lessons in all classrooms (Ms. Jacobson works with K,2,4,6, 8 and Ms. Renteria works with 1, 3, 5, 7, 8), meet with small groups based on student need and work individually with students.  They also support teachers on Social-Emotional Learning within classrooms.

Next week is counselor appreciation week.  This year's theme is "Helping Students Dream Big."  Let's show our love to Ms. Jacobson and Ms. Renteria.  Ideas to show appreciation include:
  • Monday-Wednesday - Choose a day to send your student to school with a positive note of appreciation for Ms. Renteria and/or Ms. Jacobson
  • Thursday/Friday - Choose a day to send a flower to Ms. Renteria and/or Ms. Jacobson
Have a great day,
Katie and Mattea
