We had an exciting day here at Skinner North! The Chicago Blackhawks paid us a visit to celebrate student participation in the G.O.A.L. program, their completion of the Toews' Fitness Challenge and student participation in the Future Goals-Hockey Scholar program. This program allows students to participate in STEM learning via hockey. Thank you to Jonathon Towes and Jamal Mayers for taking time out of their busy schedules to come and meet our students!

Last week was Random Act of Kindness Week. Students learned more about showing appreciation and kindness to others. They did this by focusing on doing or saying kind things for fellow community members. Some of our service learning students even went into classrooms and did lessons around kindness. What a thoughtful week and the concepts can last throughout the years! Thanks to Ms. Jacobson for helping organize.
Congratulations to Nina F, our school spelling bee champ! She took the qualifying test for the City Bee and qualified with the max score. Nice job, Nina! We are proud of you and your hard work.
Good Morning Skinner North Teachers/Staff, Parents and Families,
I wanted to thank you all for your support during the current fiscal crisis in CPS. I only just received our budget adjustments last night at 5PM, however, we were prepared for this. We saw the second largest cuts by percentage (not dollar amount) in all of the district at 3.44%. Top 2 again :) After a careful analysis of our funds and positions we have been able to determine that we will not need to cut any teachers or staff at this time. CPS is planning for additional cuts for next school year, however we will revisit those projections when provided to us in the Summer. Katie and I will be putting together a formal presentation for Friday's open LSC meeting (8:30AM), and seeking approval from our LSC to make the needed transfers to balance our books by next Tuesday's deadline. Thank you all for your support and patience as we work together to make this another successful year at Skinner North. Have a great day, -Ethan & Katie This morning parents and staff meet to provide discuss our CIWP. This document helps guide our planning and direction of the school. The CIWP is created in 2 year cycles. The 2016-2017 school year, begins a new cycle. At the meeting, we discussed our current CIWP including what we have accomplished, what we should have ongoing and edges of growth. Thank you to everyone who participated!
